My Keto Diet Updates : Week 2

My Keto Diet Updates : Week 2

It’s now been 2 weeks since I started the Lean Machine diet with Grow Fit, which is a low-carb-high-fat diet, more popularly known as the keto diet. You’ve seen my very enthusiastic updates from the first week, but what about continuing past those first seven days? Well, take a look!

Day 08

I started with my day with the Peanut Butter Power Smoothie. If you like the flavour of peanuts and peanut butter, you’re going to love this one! If you don’t, however, this might be a struggle. The flavour is rich and creamy, almost dessert-like.

Day 08 Breakfast | Keto Diet Updates | The Bellyrina Diaries

The rest of the day was a tad jinxed. Between a mix-up at their kitchen, and my own plans, I ended up making lunch and dinner for myself. Before you imagine that it was anything remotely fancy, allow me to tell you it was just cheese omelettes, with a sprinkle of spinach. I didn’t photograph them because well, they didn’t look too great. But they’re an easy, delicious option for anyone on a keto diet who’s making their own meals.

Day 09

The day started off with an almond-flavoured Power Smoothie. The flavour was delicate, and the smoothie was very filling.

Lunch was Cheese Grilled Chicken Steak, which was as delicious as it sounds. Yes, literally a slab of chicken, covered in cheese. There were also some pan-fried veggies with it, to add fibre and flavour. One of their best meals.

Day 09 | Keto Diet Update | The Bellyrina Diaries

Dinner was BBQ Chicken Skewers, which I had received once during the first week as well. These are very much like Chicken Skewers you would order in most restaurants, at least flavour-wise.

Day 10

A week and half down! Now we’re getting serious!

My day started with a butterscotch flavoured Power Smoothie, which reminded me of good ol’ Aarey milk (Bombay people, you feel me?) So besides protein, I started my day with a touch of nostalgia.

Lunch was Mexican Chicken Pizza, and you already know how I rave about their pizzas! It’s hard to argue with a mozzarella cheese crust, topped with chicken, and more cheese!

Day 10 Keto Diet Update | The Bellyrina Diaries

Dinner felt almost like it was home cooked, considering it was roti and anda bhurjee (spicy Indian scrambled eggs). The difference being that these were Ultra Low Carb rotis. The bhurjee tasted great, very much like what most of us are used to having at home. The rotis glistened with ghee, which really adds such a brilliant flavour.

Both lunch and dinner had coffee cake for dessert. Yay!

Day 11

This was the day I had to fly to Delhi for the launch of Google’s Pixel2. As a result, I had to rely on airport lounges, airline offerings, and hotel room service for my food. Thankfully, that didn’t go too badly.

Day 11 Keto Diet Update | The Bellyrina Diaries

Breakfast was cheesy scrambled eggs and black coffee, courtesy the lounge at the Bangalore Airport. I’m a huge fan of egg stations anyway, and the chef here was kind enough to make mine in butter. Pair that with black coffee, and I had myself a filling, keto breakfast. To be honest though, it took serious willpower not to grab a bread roll from the buffet. I have a massive weakness for those!

I couldn’t have much of a “lunch” because I was on the flight at the time. My in-flight meal on Vistara was a chicken wrap, so I just scraped all the chicken out and ate that. The meal included kheer for dessert, which I just looked at longingly, but didn’t eat.

Sigh.

Thankfully though, Vistara Airlines serves Starbucks! (Hooray, Tata Group!) A cup of that, with a drop of Stevia (which I carried with me), and I was a lot happier and a lot less hungry.

Day 11 Keto Diet Update | The Bellyrina Diaries

Once I got to the Hotel Andaz in Delhi, I had missed the lunch service. But hooray for room service! I ordered myself a cheese omelette with a side of smoked salmon, and made myself some black coffee using my in-room espresso machine (so fanceh!). Oh, and I ate the omelette before I remembered to take a picture, hence the lonely plate of salmon.

The real struggle was later that night at the launch party. The event was gorgeous, and I’m told the food was delicious too. However, only the Snapper Sashimi was keto-friendly, so that’s all I munched on through the evening. And I sipped on a vodka-soda with lime. That’s about it.

Day 12

After a supremely fun night at the launch of the Pixel2, and a luxuriously restful sleep (I frikkin’ LOVE hotel rooms!), I headed to breakfast. Here I gorged on cheese & sausage omelettes, with plenty of crispy bacon. To make my morning even better, the hotel staff went out of their way to make me coffee with coconut milk, which I enjoyed two large mugs of. By the way, if you haven’t yet, you really should try coconut milk coffee. It’s delicious! Super creamy and nutty.

I didn’t however, take any pictures of my breakfast, because I was having far too much fun with the others at the table.

Lunch was… you guessed it… an omelette! Yes, hotels can be tricky places to find keto-friendly food. But to be very honest here, I didn’t really explore much beyond the omelettes since, as a beginner, I still wasn’t entirely sure what was or wasn’t keto-friendly. I was sure of eggs, so stuck to that.

So lunch was a spinach & cheese omelette, with a side of smoked salmon, and black coffee.

Day 12 Keto Diet Updates | The Bellyrina Diaries

From there, it was onto my flight back to Bangalore, and plenty of black coffee again. Luckily when I got home, my Grow Fit dinner was waiting for me!

Or perhaps “lucky” wasn’t quite the word.

Day 12 Keto Diet Update | The Bellyrina Diaries

The Lean Machine Schezwan Chicken Wrap wasn’t great. The filling lacked flavour, and was very dry. This was the first meal from Grow Fit that I actually gave up on after a few bites, which was a tad frustrating after a long day of travel and flights. I ended up going out and eating a few pieces of chicken satay, which weren’t great either. Basically, not a good day for food, and I went to bed genuinely hungry.

Day 13

Thankfully the next day started better. After a good night’s sleep, I started my day with a coffee Power Smoothie, which is by far my favourite from their range.

Lunch was Hariyali Chicken Skewers, which were similar to the BBQ Chicken Skewers, except for a more desi flavour. The marinade had mint and coriander, from what I could taste. Tasty, though not particularly exciting.

Day 13 Keto Diet Update | The Bellyrina Diaries

Dinner was the Ultra Low Carb Chicken & Cheese Paratha, which is really delicious. I love how they aren’t stingy with the cheese! A quick zap in the microwave, and the cheese is all gooey and melty, and that just takes the flavour to a whole new level.

Day 14

The final day of week 2 started with a Thandai Power Smoothie. Light and refreshing, and very very desi.

Lunch was Ultra Low Carb rotis with Pudina Chicken curry. The chicken was delicious, and the rotis were yummy as usual. And man, all that ghee!

Day 14 Keto Diet Updates | The Bellyrina Diaries

But they certainly saved the best for last. Take a look at that gorgeous Chicken & Cheese Lasagna that I was served for dinner on Day 14! Remember how I mentioned they didn’t scrimp on the cheese? This scrumptious lasagna was made with cauliflower instead of pasta, and slathered in what felt like half a pound of cheese. Definitely one of my Top 3 favourite meals from Grow Fit so far.

And that wraps up Week 2 of my keto diet! Happy to report that my skin is beyond glowing (got a tonne of compliments at the Google event), I’m down 2 kilos from my start weight, and I’m sleeping better. I’ve also become considerably less dependent on coffee, which I’m astounded by! As someone who couldn’t start my day until I had had a huge mug of coffee, it feels surreal to start the day already energetic, and genuinely not needing coffee.

While I’m nowhere near offering any sort of definitive opinion on the diet yet, I must admit, keto has been treating me well so far!
